Newtown will need to learn some lessons quickly after suffering their biggest loss of the 2014-15 Whitney Cup season, according to opening batsman Wayne Dunlop.
The Tigers relinquished top spot on the Whitney Cup ladder courtesy of their 102-run defeat, but with two-day matches against Rugby and RSL-Colts to round out their season their finals destiny is still firmly in their own hands. Read more here.
The second round of the Dubbo Ultimate Frisbee Federation (DUFF) autumn mixed league for 2015 saw a grand final rematch from last season with the determined A-Team playing the EMS Fliers.
Fortunately for the A-Team, EMS were struggling for players and could not hold back the quicker play and safe hands of their opposition, with the final score reading 15-3. Read more here.
More than 100 of the region’s top triathletes converged on the Macquarie River yesterday as Dubbo held its round of the central west’s Interclub Triathlon Series, and it was a local that led the way home in the main event on the program.
Scott Stevenson completed the sprint course - which comprised a 550m swim, 18km bike ride and 4km run - in a time of 51:52 to finish ahead of fellow Dubbo club member Eli Beach, with Bathurst’s Matt Windsor finishing third after leading the field at the transition from the bike to run leg. Firefighters were kept busy battling a blaze at a property east of Dubbo Sunday afternoon.
Crews in five NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) trucks and one Fire and Rescue NSW truck were called to the Golden Highway property about 11km outside Dubbo, about 12.30pm.
A NSW RFS spokesperson said while a structure on the property had caught alight, all occupants had been accounted for.
Detectives from Orana Local Area Command were sent to the scene to investigate the blaze.

Police have launched a critical incident investigation after a man was arrested in Orange yesterday.
Just after 11pm (Saturday 14 February 2015), police attended an address in Orange following reports of a domestic-related incident, where they arrested a 28-year-old man.
It’s alleged the man became aggressive towards police, before assaulting one officer.
The man was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to Orange Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a serious condition.
An independent incident team from Western Region will investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.
That investigation will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command.
No further information is available at this time.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has signalled sweeping changes to national security, including a tougher stance on who qualifies for residency, citizenship and welfare payments.
In an extraordinary statement on his official YouTube channel on Sunday, Mr Abbott said there would be no more "benefit of the doubt" for those who might be seeking to harm Australia, and also hinted at tougher enforcement of bail laws in a bid to reset the political agenda and fend off criticism of his leadership. Prime Minister Tony Abbott has admitted he made a "terrible mistake" by losing touch with the concerns of government backbenchers before last week's leadership spill – a veiled swipe at the performance of sacked government whip Philip Ruddock.
The removal of the respected party elder has angered some government backbenchers, with Queensland MP Andrew Laming labelling the move a "scapegoating of Godzilla proportions" and saying its timing "reeks of recrimination". Read more here.

Walking home after a night out should be an uneventful endeavour, but it was far from that for one Wagga man on Saturday morning when he was bashed by a group of men.
A 27-year-old was walking down Crampton Street, heading for home, when someone knocked him over and began assaulting him. Read more here.
A baby girl and her parents died and two other children were injured when a four-wheel-drive slammed into a gum tree yesterday near Lake Mundi in the far west of the state.
A Victoria Police media liaison spokeswoman said the accident happened about 7.30am when the vehicle collided with a tree on a slight bend along the Casterton-Penola Road, near the intersection with Shanks Road, about 30 kilometres west of Casterton. Read more here.

An investigation is under way into a fire that broke out at the Dubbo Ambulance Station in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The fire damaged “a number of vehicles”, according to NSW Ambulance Deputy Commissioner Mike Willis, but arrangements were in place to ensure there was no interruption to the emergency service. Read more here.
Motorists from Sydney and interstate have been issued heavy fines and demerit point penalties after being caught doing the wrong thing on roads in the Orana Local Area Command (LAC).
Incidents included a motorbike being ridden at twice the speed limit and a radar detector discovered in a vehicle. Read more here.

A man who forged the will of a deceased man, making himself the sole beneficiary of all his property, has been sentenced to a maximum 22 months in jail in Dubbo District Court.
Jason Glenn Silvestro (previously known as Jason Glenn Parsons) pleaded guilty in November to five counts of making a false instrument to obtain property, two counts of hindering an investigation into a serious indictable offence and one count of stealing a motor vehicle. Read more here.
