Valentine's Day can be a cruel mistress to some, which was why Dubbo Petbarn teamed up with the RSPCA to play cupid and match up the lonely hearts in the city.
Eight dogs and 18 cats were putting their hearts on the line on Saturday, hoping to find someone to take them home.
Residents were invited to go on a date with furry friend to find a lifetime companion.
Dubbo Petbarn store manager Melanie Currey said the aim of the day was to raise awareness of the importance of pet adoptions.
"We're hoping all these animals here will find a family to go home with," Ms Currey said.
"This year we want to put a large focus on families accepting pets as one of their own."
"We want to celebrate these days and make people realise pets are part of the family," she said.
RSPCA foster care coordinator Kc Grealy said she hoped the pet dating would receive the attention it deserved.
"We've been able to show more animals than usual at the event, so hopefully people share the love," she said.
Last year more than 100 animals were adopted in NSW on Valentine's Day.
