MOTORISTS from Sydney and interstate have been issued heavy fines and demerit point penalties after being caught doing the wrong thing on roads in the Orana Local Area Command (LAC).

Incidents included a motorbike being ridden at twice the speed limit and a radar detector discovered in a vehicle.
Officers attached to Orana Highway Patrol detected a black Yamaha R1 motorcycle being ridden at 120km/h in a signposted 60km/h zone in Erskine Street, Dubbo about 6.45am on Friday.
The 31-year-old rider from Baulkham Hills was stopped and spoken to and allegedly told police: "I was only doing 60km/h at the most".
A police spokesperson said the rider was issued a $2252 fine and penalised six demerit points.
His licence was suspended on the spot for six months and his registration was cancelled for three months, with his number plates being returned to NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).
About 2.45pm that day, officers attached to Orana Highway Patrol stopped a red Holden Jackaroo wagon on the Newell Highway at Gilgandra
At the time the driver was observed to be using a radar detector affixed to the windscreen and operational at the time, police said.
The 42-year old male driver from South Australia was issued an infringement notice for driving a motor vehicle with speed evasion article fitted.
He was issued with a $1626 fine and will lose nine demerit points.
Police have seized the radar detector and it will be destroyed.
