Newtown built on the positives from their narrow round one 2-1 loss to defending premiers Orana Spurs, to take down a talented United side at Lady Cutler.
Settree was the star scoring his first goal via a one-on-one with goalkeeper which he calmly converted but modestly downplayed his own performance.
"I think it was more of a team thing, I just happened to be on the end of all the chances we made." he said.
Newtown have the luxury of not participating in the Western Premier League, meaning their strongest available side will always feature in first grade, Macquarie however, had to nominate 12 players who can not feature in local matches.

Settree would go on to score another one-on-one along with a header and free kick to seal the victory for Newtown.
"We had to change things up a bit because we were missing a defender so we changed up the formation a bit to see how we'd go and everything fell into place I guess," he said.
Kaide Zaia scored the only other goal for Newtown and Settree was full of praise for him and two players who played vital parts in his own success in the match.
"Our two wingers were pretty good, they both got a couple of assists for me in Brock Larance and James Sellings but everyone was on on Sunday."
Awaiting Newtown on Anzac Day is the Westside Panthers and Settree is weary of the side ahead of their match on Sunday.
"They should pretty good, obviously all of the teams are pretty good," he said.
"They've had a few players leave and go to other clubs, they will probably still be pretty strong and they have been over the last couple of years."
Moving forward, Settree admitted the goal for the side was continue to their momentum from the first two rounds over the rest of the season.
"Hopefully we can try and finish preferably first or second but just try to finish high and see if we can go all the way I guess," the forward said.
Newtown have won one of their two games and as one of the younger sides in the competition, this season they are showing signs of being one of the competition heavyweights.
Macquarie are now win-less from their first two matches after round one's loss to Dubbo Bulls and Sunday's loss to Newtown.
Things will not get easier for Macquarie on Sunday, when they face Orana Spurs.
