Corby's strike roughly 20 minutes from time sealed the 1-0 win over Barnstoneworth United at Hans Claven.
While it was Spurs' first match of the season - they had the bye in round one a week prior - the side placed a huge amount of importance on the fixture.
"We talked all week at training that the first game is a must-win and we can build confidence from that," Corby said.
"We wanted to start the season off right and we did, which was good.
"The boys showed a lot of heart. We went in a little under-strength but the boys who were there showed a lot of heart and that was the pleasing thing."

Spurs had a couple of injuries in the camp while some players were also unavailable but the increased depth at the club this season was on show.
Ben Manson, who coaches the team alongside Corby, stated in the lead-up to the match players from the club's local Dubbo District Football Association first grade side were already pushing for time in the WPL while a number of new faces at Spurs have also provided a real boost.
One of the players creating plenty of excitement is midfielder Duncan Cahill and he showcased his talents during Saturday's win over the Orange-based Barnies and was one of his side's standouts.
But there was also plenty of work to be done in defence as Barnies began the match the better while they also threw everything at Spurs late on in the search for an equaliser.
"We were under the pump in the first half and we knew we had to come out strong in the second half and we just came out over the top of them," Corby said.
"We held on, we're probably still a little unfit, but we held on.
"The boys at the back, Dave (Ferguson) and Connor (McDonald), are always there to help out and everyone put in defensively and that helped us win the game."
Along with Cahill, Corby singled out McDonald as one of his side's best with his speed and ability to read the game from centre-back a real bonus for the Orana outfit.
Corby didn't talk up his own strike too much but it was the key moment of the match when he stepped up to nail the free-kick from just outside the box.
"We've been working on it a little at training and we've got a few different people who can take them but it just happened to go in on the day, which was handy," he added.
Spurs are on the road next weekend for a meeting with Panorama FC at Bathurst.
