At 8.15am on Monday, an 11-year-old girl was walking to school on Piper Street when she noticed a utility following her.
The girl changed direction and walked into a laneway where the utility has pulled up alongside her and the man driving offered her a lift.
The girl ran to school notifying a teacher and the police were contacted.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the incident.
The man driving is described as being aged in his 20s, with short brown hair, brown facial hair and wearing a blue long sleeve shirt.
The utility is described as silver coloured, with roof racks and a number plate with white background.
Police are appealing for public assistance and urge anyone with information or any motorists who may have dash cam vision and were in the area today to contact Broken Hill Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
