The Tesla and NRMA charging stations are being built in the Western Plains Cultural Centre car park. There will be four Tesla superchargers, for Tesla vehicles, and an NRMA fast charger on the northern side that suits a range of vehicles.
When the plan was first approved by Dubbo Regional Council, councillor Dayne Gumley said the charging stations would help encourage more people to consider electric vehicles, while also promoting tourism.

"It'll be good to get electric vehicle owners from out of town now being able to come to Dubbo, even if it's on the way to somewhere else. They can come to Dubbo and spend their money, whether they stay here or they're buying lunch," Cr Gumley said.
Charging a car generally takes more than 30 minutes. A Tesla takes about 75 minutes from an empty battery.
Cr Gumley said by having the infrastructure, electric vehicles would become more popular in the region.
A report undertaken by the NRMA in 2017 found there were more than two million electric vehicles on the road, with suggestions it could rise to 140 million by 2035.
The Australian Labor Party's Strategy for a Cleaner Transport Future suggests a national electric vehicle target of 50 per cent for new car sales by 2030.
But the Motor Traders' Association of NSW said by making 50 per cent of the new cars electric, it would impact 170,000 jobs in the automotive retail, service, repair and fuel industries.
