The zoo has a number of essential staff onsite that continue to ensure the welfare and safety of the animals, facilities and grounds.
"Our keepers, veterinarians and vet nurses, nutrition staff and maintenance teams are all essential staff and are onsite during this temporary closure," zoo director Steve Hinks said.
The nutrition team are critical members of the zoo team and prepare food for all the animals and deliver it across the site.
This includes fruits and vegetables, meat, hay and some very different dietary items such as crickets, mealworms and fly pupae.
Keepers continue to feed and care for the animals on a daily basis whilst the maintenance team continues to look after the zoo grounds, keeping them in top condition.
The Wildlife Hospital team is continuing to care for the zoo's animals and provide advice on wildlife cases.
During the temporary closure the zoo will continue to share stories and videos about the animals and conservation programs via its Facebook and Instagram channels.
You can also tune in twice a week to virtual education lessons for those learning from home.
"We hope that by continuing to share stories from the zoo, people will be able to continue to see our work, connect with our team and our animals, and also find educational benefits for children who may be at home," Steve said.
