The Dubbo junior has previously played for Sydney FC, Wellington Phoenix, and Perth Glory but most recently spent a year playing with Indian Premier League club, Odisha.
A versatile defender, Tratt will aim to help shore up a defence which battled for consistency for much of last season.
"I was able to watch United play a lot last season while I was in India and loved what I saw," Tratt, 26, said after signing.
"I've spoken with (coach) Carl (Veart) and he's told me how he wants the team to play and I'm excited to be part of that moving forward.
"I believe I'll be able to positively contribute to the progress the team made last season and I'm ready to hit the ground running and work hard for this great club."

Adelaide United finished fifth last season before suffering a semi-final defeat to eventual premiers Sydney FC.
Tratt joins the club having debuted in the A-League with Wellington in the 2016/17.
The defender, capable of playing at centre-back or on the right, had captained Sydney FC to a premiership in the National Youth League prior to that and arrives at Adelaide having now played 44 matches in the A-League.
He played nine matches for Sydney FC during its run to grand final glory in 2018/19.
"Jacob is a quality defender and definitely strengthens our defensive stocks," Veart said.
"His A-League experience, but more specifically being part of the 2018/19 Sydney FC squad that won the championship, will serve us very well.
"I'm sure Jacob will quickly settle in to life at Adelaide United and be welcomed by our playing group once he's able to get to South Australia."
The 2021/22 A-League season starts in October.
