Berakah Christian Education Board President Andrew Boog said it was not so much a name change as the creation of a new organisation.
"The name came out of our thinking, how we teach and learn through our Christian worldview; learning that is meaningful in terms of how what we learn can help others, be used to make a difference and to make our world a better place," Mr Boog said.
The Berakah means 'blessing' and it was one of a number of options put to the parent community for their vote.
"This was the one selected by our members as best summarising what we are about," Mr Boog said. Mr Boog said the name change better reflected the heart of the organisation: to be a blessing to its students, families and community.
"This means an emphasis on service, deeper learning and our Christian foundations as we provide high quality education across each," he said.
Mr Boog said Dubbo Christian Preschool, Dubbo Christian School and Wellington Christian School now have equal status under the Berakah banner.
"Prior to this, Wellington Christian School was operated by Dubbo Christian School and Wellington parents could only be part of the parent body by joining through Dubbo," he said.
"We wanted parents of all three schools to be equal in the organisation."
Mr Boog said the process was relatively straightforward.
"The preliminary issues were identifying what options were available, what impact each could have with our regulators and most importantly, our communities including staff, students and parents, and then selecting the best way ahead," he said.
Mr Boog said the name change did not affect the schools.
"Each school retains its own name, identity, uniform etc," he said.
"It is intended to provide an overarching structure that provides stability, consistent governance and efficient delivery of services across each. Financial services, ICT support and property maintenance are provided centrally rather than doubling up at each school as examples.
"Each school has already operated successfully for many years and so has developed its own vision, ethos, culture and operating patterns, all within the context of Christian schooling.
"Those dynamics are valuable and we have wanted them to be retained, enhanced and made available to future generations of our students."
