With the picnic club preparing for their annual meeting on April 24, a resilient committee is hoping to put a tough three years behind them in anticipation of a bumper crowd and enthralling card of racing.

"The last three years has been tough, said Tomingley Picnic Races President, Jason Hartin to NSW Country and Picnic Racing.

"We had a rip-roaring drought (2018), then we had the accident (2019) and then we had Covid (2020)," he said.

The committee won't rest on their laurels though, with the club investing a lot of money in what they hope turns out to be a successful meeting both on and off the track.

"The club is putting a lot of money into this meeting because we need this meeting to stay alive," Hartin said.

"We have been rebranded. We are where beautiful shoes meet dusty hooves," he laughed.

One way Tomingley hopes to attract a big crowd is by hosting a large fashions on the field contest, boasting $5000 worth of prizes.

"We are putting on $5000 for our fashions on the fields. We have eight categories and everyone can win something," Hartin said.

When asked why the change of tact, Hartin explained that they were hoping to attract a new demographic to their picnic race meeting.

"I just want to attract that younger crowd and put a bit of pride into the region and those who attend our event," he said.

"We are very family orientated, but we are also having a big after-party at the Cross Roads Hotel - everyone is going to be catered for on the day."

As far as attending the meeting located in the Central West of NSW, Hartin said there was plenty of accommodation and onsite camping.

"The Tomingley, Narromine and Peak Hill areas have all got accommodation and people can camp on the ground as well," he said.

Hartin promised racegoers a good time at Tomingley too.

"I can guarantee country atmosphere and hospitality," Hartin said.

As far as the racing is concerned, the Tomingley President said Racing NSW stewards have given the nod of approval.

"The track is magnificent, I had the stewards around the other day, and they were very happy and they gave me a few pointers on areas where we could be even better," Hartin said.

The Tomingley Picnic Races meeting will be praying for a good crowd and strong fields with the passionate racing fan explaining that Tomingley picnics is what made Tomingley a town.

"If the meeting is gone, then Tomingley is off the map," Hartin said.
