Aged care facilities at Dubbo are being encouraged by the federal Department of Health to start planning for their COVID-19 "vaccination day".

A department spokeswoman told the Daily Liberal consenting residents of aged care facilities in the city would get the jab in "coming weeks" under the first and 1a phase of the vaccine rollout.
Facilities in Dubbo would be informed of "exact dates ahead of time", she said.

"The rollout across the country will take a number of weeks, and will then require a second visit by the in-reach teams to complete the second doses," the department spokeswoman said.
"The vaccinations will be done by a special vaccination team visiting each of the facilities."
The department spokeswoman said it was working with stakeholders to support facilities in the rollout, including aged care peak bodies and advocacy groups.
More than 39,700 vaccinations have taken place in 437 residential aged care and disability accommodation facilities in Australia.
Aged and disability care workers will also be vaccinated under 1a.
