A number of Dubbo's highly regarded citizens were acknowledged for the amazing work they do in the community.
Our journalists Nick Guthrie, Zaarkacha Marlan and Tom Barber went along this morning to talk to the locals who received the awards.
CITIZEN OF THE YEAR: Terence Clark received an 'amazing' birthday gift, when he was named as Dubbo's 2021 Citizen of the Year during the Australia Day ceremony.
"The award is amazing, I'm very humbled by it, it's been a long journey in Dubbo 35 years and as today is my birthday, this is a wonderful gift," Mr Clark said. Full story here.
YOUNG CITIZEN OF THE YEAR: Accepting his Young Citizen of the Year Award, well-known and liked young man Alex Boney, showed just how deserving of a recipient he was.
"It's pretty amazing, it feels like a long time coming. This award isn't for me, it's for all the kids up at Apollo Estate and all the vulnerable kids I work with in Dubbo," Mr Boney said. Full story here.
YOUNG SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR: Very few people could find positives from being stuck at home during the peak of the COVID-enforced lockdown last year but for Isabelle Russell it helped set her on a path to becoming a national champion.
Russell was named Dubbo's Young Sportsperson of the Year on Tuesday during the Australia Day ceremony at Victoria Park. Full story here
SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR: David Pattinson said he was "humbled" and "astonished"to have been named the Dubbo Regional Council 2021 Senior Citizen of the Year.
Mr Pattinson received the award for his dedication to helping people from all backgrounds in the community during the 2021 Australia Day ceremony. Full story here
SERVICE TO SPORT: David Wrigley is someone who's been made to wait for success.
As a horse owner, it took him 19 years to finally get that breakthrough winner and as a long-serving and tireless and worker behind the scenes at Dubbo Harness Racing Club there hasn't always been a lot of recognition.
But that changed on Tuesday when Wrigley was awarded the Service to Sport award during Dubbo's Australia Day ceremony at Victoria Park. Full story here
CULTURAL PERSON OF THE YEAR: With a passion for the screen, Dubbo's 2021 Cultural Person of the Year hopes to develop a film and television industry in the city that keeps people here, rather than forcing them to move to grow their careers.
Kellie Jennar said she was "honoured" to be named Dubbo Regional Council Cultural Person of the Year for her work building the creative opportunities for people in the region. Full story here
