About 1pm on Tuesday, emergency services were called to a property on Jacqueline Drive after reports of a gas leak.
The street was closed to traffic while police along with three Fire and Rescue NSW trucks and gas technicians secured the area.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews evacuated the area, making sure there were no ignition sources, and placed fire protection in place for themselves.
"The gas company closed off the leak and we're just monitoring the atmosphere now to make sure there's no flammable, explosive limits from the gas," Fire and Rescue NSW Dubbo Fire Station commander Chris Cusack said.
Station Commander Cusack said the leak began after a home owner had been completing some work in the yard when they accidentally hit their gas main.
The station officer said it was an "unfortunate" incident and easy to do as the gas main was not that far under the ground.
"It was just very, very unfortunate, but the resident did the right thing and called triple zero straight away and we've got a good result.
