Jessica Sutherland presented a petition to mayor Ben Shields with 235 signatures on the issue. It called for council to install appropriate shade for the basketball courts.
In 2018 council and the NSW government contributed $1.26 million to upgrade Rygate Park, installing six tennis courts, four netball courts, two basketball courts and a half-sized hockey field.
But residents have complained the lack of shade is impacting on the ability to hold a basketball competition over summer.

Cr Shields said it was worth an investigation to see what could and could not be done to make the area cooler.
He said at the time of doing the upgrades there wasn't the funding for a shade structure to go over the facilities and without any tall trees around it was "very, very hot".
Council will look into the matter as part of the 2021/22 operational plan and budget.
