"It's been pretty good considering everything that's happened, we got through it pretty well," he told the Daily Liberal on Monday.
"We only missed out on two weeks in school of learning, and I think it was good to just revise during that time."
Year 12 student Logan Beckenham said "lots of study" in the lead up was very helpful before Monday's exam.
"It was a bit difficult I'll be honest," he said after finishing.
Logan has just three more exams in Health, VET metals and engineering and Industrial Technology next week.
Year 12 coordinator Matt O'Dea said despite the unusual year, he was proud of the cohort for their resilience.
"It's been very different this year because of COVID, but they've taken a lot of it in their stride, they're a really resilient group of kids," he said.
"Now we're in the second week they seem to be in a routine and doing well.
"It's my first year as coordinator so I'm probably more stressed than they are, but they're a really good bunch of kids and we're expecting good results."
The school has a COVID-Safe plan in place for the HSC exams and are required to follow health guidelines and to have a backup plan if somebody at the school had a confirmed case of COVID-19.
Students will be asked if they are feeling healthy before entering an exam room. Those feeling unwell on the day will be able to go through the usual illness and misadventure process so they aren't penalised.
The Education Department has asked that no more than 75 students be allowed in an exam room and that the venues be prioritised for cleaning.
