The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is an activity for all ages and a great way to connect with the birds in our region and spend some time in the great outdoors.
All you need to participate is 20 minutes and your favourite outdoor space. This could be a local park or reserve, along the Macquarie River, a National Park or even at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

If you are a local Zoo Friend member this is a great reason to enjoy some time in the Zoo but also contribute to the overall knowledge of bird species in our region.
The purpose of the Aussie Backyard Bird Count is to contribute to BirdLife Australia's knowledge of Aussie birds and there is an opportunity for participants to win some great prizes in the process.
This count helps determine the common species that live where people live and provides a snapshot of Australian birds at the same time each year.
This provides data on trends in the bird communities from year to year and also very important information that can indicate the health of the environment.
