The preschool set up a table with free self care products and cookies for parents to take as well as R U OK? Day cards and a mental health pamphlet.
Dubbo West Preschool Inc director Cathryn Albert said they supported R U OK? Day last year for the first time were shocked by how many people collected the flyers and fact sheets.
"We focused on R U OK? Day last year and were very surprised by the amount of flyers and fact sheets that were taken up, so this year we felt like giving back, even if it was only a little gift, was important," Ms Albert said.
"We all need to talk about our feelings and the stress we are under."
Ms Albert said they began focusing on mental health and wellbeing last year after becoming a BE YOU workplace, which is a Beyond Blue initiative that supports positive early education centre environments.
"The focus for this was heightened at the very beginning of the pandemic for the staff, children and their families. We put up a beautiful rainbow on our fence with the few children of essential workers we still had coming. With such a big change to families lives and children missing preschool we asked for them to add to our fence with their own rainbow and drop by to say hello through the fence," she said.
Ms Albert said they had noticed significant changes to children and some families and have had to change the way in which they celebrate events and connect with families due to COVID-19, so hosting an R U OK? Day stand was a way for them to offer their support.
"Our connection to families is less this year than ever before," she said.
