Former NRL player and Mudgee Dragons recruit Harry Siejka said he and some of his teammates are still training in the hope of matches still going ahead in 2020.
Last Tuesday night saw both the Group 11 and Group seasons cancelled for 2020.
That decision ruled Siejka out of a return to Group 10 following years with NRL clubs and teams in the UK.
The former Bathurst Panthers junior returning to his home region for the first time since joining the Penrith Panthers as a 14-year-old in 2006.
"It's disappointing not to play and I think we've got a good enough squad to do a job in Group 10," he said of the Mudgee Dragons.
"We're still training, and a few catch up and keep fit, just in case anything does happen we'd be ready to go."
Dubbo clubs Macquarie and CYMS are believed to be pushing for a makeshift competition for what is left of the season.

It would likely involve clubs from Group 11 and Group 10 and that's something Siejka would be open to.
"You'd be better off joining with what teams could field a team and combine it with Group 11," he said.
"It's not too far to travel and if you could get eight to nine teams there's a sort of round robin and it's be similar with what the NSWRL do with Harold Matthews and SG Ball competitions."
Siejka has previously played four NRL games for Penrith during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
He was part of the NRL squads for both the New Zealand Warriors and St George Illawarra Dragons following that and after not cracking the top side at either he headed to England.
In England he spent time at three professional sides - Wakefield, Featherstone and Bradford - from 2014-2015.
He also has international caps for Poland, starring when they won the trophy final at the 2018 Emerging Nations World Championships in Australia.
