The leading Bathurst-based trainer has enjoyed plenty of success in recent time, having had runners in two of the past three Country Championships Finals, but he has endured something of a lean patch in the past few weeks.
But his brief two-month drought came to an end on Monday as Supergaze followed a promising debut at Orange earlier in the month by scoring at Narromine Jockey Club.
After getting to the lead with ease in the straight jockey Mathew Cahill put the work in as Supergaze lost his way slightly but it finished a relatively comfortable three-quarters-of-a-length win in the Robert Handsaker Narromine Maiden Handicap (1300m).
"He's a very nice horse," Mirfin told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
"He ran very well first-up over 1000m. We thought he needed a little. further and he got that today."

While optimistic about what the Excelebration x Galactic Princess gelding can achieve, Mirfin said there was still work to be done.
The slightly wayward showing in the final few hundred metres was proof of that.
"He's immature physically and mentally and he looked like he stargazed there a little bit when he hit the lead, his action changed a little bit and he lifted his knees up a little bit higher then he was before that but that's part of the process with young horses learning how to race," Mirfin said.
"It was a good effort."
Alison Princess missed out on a first win despite a strong finish again for Wellington trainer Jim McMillan and had to settle for second while Riders Inthe Stand ($26) was third for Brett Thompson.
