The band is comprised of Tom Gray on keys, drummer James Fiander, singer Lorna Mitchell, Pat Perry on guitar and Chris Goud on bass. They were chosen as the opening act for the now postponed Under Western Skies Festival.
Decimal Point formed in 2015 when its four original members were in Year 6. The following year, Tom joined on keys, followed by the new vocalist Lorna and bassist Chris last year.
"We all joined once we came to [Dubbo College]," Tom said.
"We liked hanging out and jamming so we started performing and putting it together, taking it seriously."
When the band members changed, so did their sound.

"It's more funky pop than rock now, but it was definitely originally rock. Our vocalist went from being a guy, who could sing rock, to a girl vocalist. It was easier for us to do more pop charts than the rock," Tom said.
He said the band was enjoying their new style.
Decimal Point is also working on a couple of original songs, which their hoping will be out by mid-year. However, the band didn't want to give too much away.
"We've seen a lot of the local bands around us in Dubbo start to put our original music. We were really inspired by that so we started putting our ideas together and went from there," Tom said.
He said it was bands like Civil Hands, as well as some younger groups like Marrow and House of Gold that they had been connecting with because like Decimal Point, they were out there trying to make a name for themselves.
The band, which rehearses about once a month, is available for private events but Tom said with the recent cancellations of gatherings they had lost about four bookings.
However, despite Under Western Skies also being postponed, Tom said it had been an "honour" to be part of the line-up.
The festival aimed to promote bands who were playing original content and announced Decimal Point just days before the cancellation.
"It was definitely exhilarating hearing we were chosen. We didn't think they were going to be asking junior bands so getting that honour was really lovely," Tom said.
The main motivation for the band is just to hang out together.
Tom said he personally enjoys being able to play music with others, while other band members said it was the chance to bond as friends that they most enjoyed.
Since the new members joined, the group has become firm friends. They've also had more of an opportunity to meet other junior bands and musicians from across Dubbo.
