Mr Gray was recently named Junior Medical Officer of the Year at Nepean Hospital, where he is now practicing as a junior doctor.
Mr Gray was a student at the School of Rural Health in 2018, completing the fourth and final year of his medical degree at the Dubbo campus.
He spent the year living and training in Dubbo and was an active part of the local community.
While studying in Dubbo Mr Gray volunteered for the annual Teddy Bear Hospital held at Dubbo North Public School, implementing important healthy habits such as hand washing and teeth brushing. He was also involved in the Bright Minds tutoring program, which saw medical students mentor high school students at Dubbo College Senior Campus.
Mr Gray also regularly volunteered with the local chapter of St John Ambulance.
Dubbo School of Rural Health tutor Dr Paul Roth, who had the pleasure of teaching Callum, said he was a "stand-out student", well liked by staff, tutors, patients and his peers.
"Callum was very impressive in both his academic studies and clinical training. He was competent and confident, with a great manner towards both patients and his peers," Dr Roth said.
"We knew Callum would become an excellent doctor, so we are thrilled he's been recognised with this award.
"Callum's time in Dubbo was great preparation to enter the medical workforce," Dr Roth said.
