The augmented reality game will be similar to Pokemon Go, but Dubbo Regional Discovery will be aimed at getting people back to the centre of Dubbo and into local shops.
It's part of this year's Smile it's Christmas campaign.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
The game will follow the story of some prisoners who have broken out of Old Dubbo Gaol and stolen some Christmas presents. Members of the community have to find where the presents have been stashed and catch the inmates.
Every present found in the CBD will be an entry into a weekly draw to win one of five $100 MyDubbo Region shopping cards.
Dubbo Region mayor Ben Shields said the game would be something fun to do, especially given things had been quite tough for businesses and shoppers this year.
The Dubbo Region Discovery game app will be available for download from Thursday, November 28.
