Dubbo Regional Council staff and their families took to Talbragar Street on Saturday night to encourage the community to "be wise with our water".

They led the Macquarie Credit Union DREAM Festival's lantern parade sponsored by the council.
The enthusiastic and large council contingent wore T-shirts bearing the message and carried LED watering cans, LED wands and illuminated clouds.

The council's director of culture and economy, Natasha Comber, said the message was simple but important.
"As we approach level four water restrictions, we continue to work closely with residents and business communities to vastly change our region's water usage behaviours, something that's more critical than ever given the current unrelenting drought conditions gripping our region," she said.

The Dubbo region will move from level three water restrictions to level four water restrictions on Friday.
Almost 400 people of all ages took part in the parade which was watched by several thousand people, reports the council which is a major supporter of the festival.
