The It's Our Macquarie campaign urges all residents to help protect the Macquarie River - which provides at least 70 per cent of our drinking water - from stormwater pollution.
The campaign features a video of fictional teacher Mr Jones.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"It goes over the impacts at home, on the street and at work that we can have on the stormwater system and also the river," Ms Jennings said.
"Mr Jones is that friendly figure who communicates all those issues and he adjusts everyone's behaviour as he goes along into good behaviour but by the end of the film it's all too much for him."
Ms Jennings hopes the video will be a call to action.
"One of the main messages is even if there's a Mr Jones out there helping everybody clean up their act, in the end the sources from stormwater pollution come from so many areas that it's still something everybody needs to play a role in, not just council, not just businesses but everybody in their day-to-day lives," she said.
"It can't be just one person trying to stop the pollution, it has to be everybody coming together."
Council is encouraging residents, schools and businesses to watch the video.
Anyone who watches it can fill out a survey on the Dubbo Regional Council website to win prizes like a My Dubbo gift card or storm water stencilling for your school or business.
The campaign runs from May 13 until June 30. More information is available on council's website.
