Allison Harland is doing her home town of Cobar proud as she takes part in the Cancer Council fundraiser.
Stepping up to support Allison, who recently moved to Dubbo, is Cobar's Western Studio of Performing Arts.
Principal Angie White said Cobar was thrilled to have involvement in the event for the first time since it began.
Mrs White praised their star, a "motivated lovely lady".
"She's also really happy to represent Cobar, and pump out the publicity for Cobar and let everyone know how wonderful Cobar is and what a great community place it is," she said.
Allison will be supported by 12 back-up dancers, drawn from the studio's musical theatre class.
"It's just a fun class, it's basically mums and grandmothers of all ages that are in this group, all for fun," Mrs White said.
"They're excited because most of the other groups backing are young people, but they are in the ages 19 to about 60."
The effort is building spirits among the group in a town experiencing tough times.
"They're working really hard, and we're doing fundraising in Cobar but it's just gentle fundraising because the drought has affected so many people," Mrs White said.
"We're just doing a little bit, we're not going crazy because people just don't have the money out here and times are hard and it's more for us getting Cobar recognised and promoting the cancer message."
The genre of the routine remains a secret.
"But let's just say the name of the group is the Desert Queens," Mrs White said.
The principal says the dance is shaping up to entertain at the May 11 event.
Allison's five-minute routine is being choreographed by Cindy Freeman, a student of Mrs White's who is also in the musical theatre group.
"It is a very entertaining dance and it's bound to get a lot of laughs and a lot of appreciation for the guts of these women for getting up to take part," Mrs White said.
