Part one of their two day match saw Colts skipper Chris Morton singlehandedly wrestle supremacy back from the Cougars, posting 129 not out after Colts had fallen to 8-106.
On Saturday CYMS will resume on 2-20 after openers Stuart Naden and Bailey Edmunds fell in quick succession.
They'll have their work cut out for them to surpass Colts, but their run chase will be in good hands as Tom Coady and Brock Larance resume on three runs apiece.
The result is unlikely to have much impact on the shape of the top three - Newtown (71 points going into Saturday) have already secured victory over Rugby (31 points) and are pushing for an outright win.

But the winner will no doubt secure a psychological advantage as Colts (69) and CYMS (64) look all but certain to face again in semi final in three weeks.
In the weekend's other match at Victoria Park No 3 Oval, the winless Souths (17) face an uphill battle to reel in Macquarie (31) after the Blues posted a whopping 352 last Saturday.

The Hornerts skipper Mitch Bower was in fine form, taking 7-81.
He will need to spark something again with the bat if his side hopes to finish the 2018-19 RSL-Whitney Cup season on a high note.
