The South Sydney Rabbitohs are eager to take to Glen Willow Stadium with their best foot forward in hopes of claiming a Mudgee victory once again.
Last time the Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons met was in a semi final clash where the red and green prevailed by a single point leaving with a score of 13-12.
“We’ve got a great rivalry,” bunnies hooker Damien Cook said.
The Charity Shield is treated as an all important pre-season match that prepares both sides for their round one clashes.
We haven’t done too much work like you would for a normal round game looking at the Dragons because it’s obviously pre-season so it’s a trial, but we’re trying to work out what’s best for our team and what works for us.

“It’s a tough game of footy. It’s not just a trial game, we’re obviously playing for a bit of silverware as well and we’ve been able to hold that for the last couple of years and we hope to do it again this year.”
Glen Willow continues to impress it’s visitors with Cook saying its quality is a testament to how much Mudgee love rugby league.
“The best thing is the fields are in an outstanding condition, it shows how much the town really love their rugby league,” he said.
The whole facility is good enough for NRL level every round.
“We couldn’t believe how good of a condition the grounds really were. Credit to the groundskeepers and Mudgee Dragons for keeping the field in such great condition.
“The whole facility is good enough for NRL level every round. It’s a great field to play on and great atmosphere too."
One of the most important reasons the sport is brought out to Mudgee is to offer up an opportunity that doesn’t come by all too often, and to inspire the next generation of NRL stars.
“For us as players to be role models to those young kids out there to is so important because hopefully we inspire them to play sport, hopefully rugby league, and go on to live out their dreams like we did when we were younger,” Cook said.
“They don’t get to see NRL players live very often so it’s great that we take the game out there.
We will hopefully put smiles on some faces this weekend and give a good show.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will take on the St George Illawarra Dragons at Glen Willow Stadium, March 2 at 7.30pm.
