Four of the police will stay in Dubbo, one will cover Wellington and another will work in Mudgee. They all started their first day at the Dubbo Police Station on Monday.
Orana Mid-Western Inspector Paul Stephens said the probationary constables would hit the ground running.
“[Monday was] more their induction day, getting to meet and greet the Commander and the Officer-in-Charge in Dubbo and all the various people in the station. From Tuesday onwards they’re free up in cars working the streets,” Insp Stephens said.

After three months at the Goulburn Police Academy, the positions in Dubbo, Wellington and Mudgee are the first postings for the six officers.
Insp Stephens said roughly every three months there was a new class of recruits graduating.
There officers were also needed for a special job on Monday: delivering presents to the Dubbo Hospital.
“They came up here to meet everyone as well and to give out some presents they’ve been collecting from everyone within the station over the last month which we’re doing all across the district,” Insp Stephen said.
“All the presents we’re giving out today and to the other hospitals around the area are all staff-collected presents from various police stations.”
On day one things were looking pretty positive for the constables.
“They’re looking alright so far, ask me again in six months time and we’ll see how we’re going,” Insp Stephen said.
The NSW Police Force welcomed 257 new probationary constables at the latest attestation and celebrated retiring decorated police officers, including former Dubbo-based Chief Inspector Trent Le-Merton.
Chief inspector Le-Merton joined the NSW Police Force in 1981.
The 168 men and 89 women will complete 12 months on-the-job training and study the Associate Degree in Policing Practice by distance with Charles Sturt University before they are confirmed as constables.
