The Diamonds, a glamorous high energy concert featuring three female singers, will be the first of 24 productions in the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre’s (DRTCC) line-up for next year.
Backed by The Mighty Big Band and Stepping Out Dance Factory, the group was guest performer at the variety concert that launched the DRTCC’s season on Sunday afternoon.
“The Diamonds were outstanding,” long-time DRTCC subscriber Pat Dargin said.
More than 350 people attended as theatre manager Linda Christof and her team unveiled the 2018 program, which has the theme ‘Your Journey Starts Here’.
Ending the suspense, Ms Christof announced the international content for 2018.
“From your comfortable theatre seat, we will take you on a journey to France, Italy, Japan, Russia and even a place called Wonderland,” she said.
“Your theatre ticket is your passport to travel the world.”
The season highlights in the ever popular dance genre include Bangarra Dance Theatre, The Nutcracker by The Moscow Ballet, Australian Dance Theatre and A Russian Triple Bill by the Russian Ballet.
A treat for the lovers of opera is coming with Madame Butterfly performed by Opera Australia and musicals galore with Nancye Hayes and Todd McKenney in Bosom Buddies, 9—5 The Musical by Dubbo Theatre Company Inc and the cabaret Exposing Edith.
There are six family and youth shows to choose from as well as comedy, classical piano concerts, Shakespeare and big band favorites.
“When curating our season we ensure we cater for as many people as possible and endeavor to have a good mix of quality local, national and international productions—as well as lots of matinees,” Ms Christof said.
“One favorite sure to be included in the subscription package is a poignant drama about a mother’s loss – a nation’s obsession – Letters to Lindy about the baby Azaria case spanning 30 years.”
Copies of the 2018 season booklet are available from DRTCC and at numerous locations at Dubbo and district.
The subscription season closes on January 25, when all tickets go on sale to the general public.
