Coonamble Farmer Tom Cullen said, although the rain has been patchy, he had about two inches.

"It's absolutely lifesaving, you've got no idea. People were just getting so down," he said.

"I don't mean to sound magical, but the drought could be over, we just don't know."

Official reports from Weatherzone record 1.4 mm of rain at Coonamble Saturday and Sunday.

In Dubbo 5.2mm fell, while Coonabarabran had one of the highest weekend rainfalls of the region with Weatherzone measuring 26.2mm of rain.

However Cr Lane said the Walgett Shire had only seen from five to ten millimetres.

"The Lightning Ridge horse races were cancelled, there was just enough rain to cancel them, and the rodeo was muddy on Friday night but other than that there wasn't enough rain to write about," he said.

Cr Lane said it was "a bit of a disappointment".

"The Beauru of Meteorology was saying around an inch but I think everybody is used to seeing them get it wrong,' Cr Lane said.

"I think it might just have forgotten how to rain."

Cr Lane said the dry conditions were going to hit the farmers hard.

"I think we might be looking down another season without any profit. It's going to be devastating to the economy."

In Walgett, 6.2mm hit the official rain gauge. Brewarrina received only 4.2mm, while Bourke had even less with 2.8mm measured.

Narromine farmer James Hamilton said he measured about 5mm.

"It's very timely and hopefully we'll receive more," he said.
