Included in the book is the tales of an Aboriginal poet, retired policeman, truck driver, one-time communist, ex-con, farmer, country paramedic and a former prisoner-of-war.
Told in their own words, and in a spirit of reconciliation, these personal journeys were described as raw, honest, courageous and often funny, proving the old adage that in every life there is a good story to tell.
“‘Hey brother, tell me your story’, might just be the most life-changing thing you can say to a person,” Aboriginal poet, Frank Doolan said.
“If it wasn’t for the Dubbo Community Men’s Shed I wouldn’t be here. It’s given me a focus and that’s kept me alive,” shed member, Bob Kleinig said.
The book launch will take place at 10am at the showground expo centre and is part of a day-long regional Men’s Shed Expo day.
This 136 page book is available for $10 from Dubbo Cultural Centre, Wingewarra Street; Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre, Brisbane Street (opposite the Catholic Church); or by contacting Ray Brown on (02) 6882 9952, by email ray-gail@bigpond.com or his website www.men.dubbo-nsw.info.
