Following last month’s annual meeting, the members invited back Michael Russell as vice-chairperson, Mike Twohill (secretary), Matt Wright (treasurer), and returning 2010 committee members Eric Eno and Lou Xuereb.
Don Adams and Peter Castlehouse stepped aside for a well-earned break to make way for new committee members Rod Knee and Vince Reynolds. Congratulations to all on their election to the 2011 committee.
The regular Thursday’s 3-ball handicap competition starts afresh this week and many players have expressed their desire to take the annual mantle away from A-grade players Rod Knee and Brian Tilston, who last year amassed more wins and points respectively than any other players.
As usual, play begins at 6.30pm, and if the amount of players turning up recently on non-competition nights is a guide for what is to come, then we expect a massive turnout.
Friday’s ever-popular Secret Ball will resume the following night, and for a lot of the players this Friday night competition is a great way to catch up with mates while combining a fun evening on the tables.
Last year’s annual mantle winner was Sid Morris, closely followed by Rod Knee, Peter Stevenson and Peter Castlehouse, and the only way to win it is to be in it, so once again we expect a full house on the tables.
Current 2011 snooker club memberships are now being accepted, and the indecently small fee of $2.00 brings many rewards and opportunities for snooker players.
Please see Matt Wright or the committee on Thursday or Friday nights to sign-up now.
The committee is presently finalising the annual events calendar, with all the domestic competitions in place, and the inter-clubs being contacted to confirm their competition dates. This will become available to current financial snooker club members as soon as it is ready.
The traditional starter for the season is the Jim Lang Perpetual Tophy, a mixed-doubles event which will take place from 9am on Sunday, February 27.
