Richards will be returning with fond memories of his last visit in November of 1975 when he smashed 110 runs in a West Indies tour match against Western Country NSW at No.1 Oval.
At the time, Richards was a 23-year-old on the cusp of greatness, with just the one Test hundred to his name - during the next two years he would go on to make seven more and would finish his 17-year Test career in 1991 with 24.
The West Indian ‘Master Blaster’, who swaggered onto cricket pitches to dominate bowling attacks the world over during the 70s and 80s, has confirmed he will attend a Sportsman’s Dinner at the Dubbo Golf Club on Wednesday, February 17.
The dinner will be one of his first official engagements in Australia after touching down in Brisbane on February 16, from where he will fly via Sydney to Dubbo the following day.
The function will also be attended by former Australian fast bowler Rodney Hogg, who played during the same period as Richards.
Sir Viv’s visit will coincide with the five-match One-Day International series and two Twenty20 fixtures between Australia and the West Indies to be played from February 7 to 23.
“Dubbo will be the first stop on Sir Vivian Richards’ speaking tour after flying in from Antigua and we are very privileged to be getting someone of his calibre,” Dubbo Golf Club vice-president Maureen Dempsey said.
“We are his first port of call so we are organising a stretched limousine to pick him up and give him some of the royal treatment because we want to show that we are country people and we look after people.”
