Trailing the minor premiers 1-0 with 10 minutes remaining, Narromine flipped the game on its head by firstly being awarded a penalty, which Matt Russ duly converted, and then two minutes later Jim Ring lost his defender to score a run away goal.
All of a sudden Narromine had the lead and the momentum - creating and narrowly missing three more good chances - and earning themselves their first All-Age title.
“It’s the very first time for Narromine. It’s unreal,” goalkeeper Ben Clarke said after the game.
“RSL did the same sort of thing to us in the major semi - scored a penalty and then a goal straight after to take the lead.
“We never expected to get to the grand final. We don’t train, we just play in the spirit of the game, have fun with each other and never give up.
“It’s been a good year for Narromine sport so far.”
While the All-Age women went down in their grand final, Narromine also produced wins in the junior rugby league under-11 and under-16 grand finals.
The town will also host the rugby union grand finals this Saturday with Narromine Gorillas playing Bathurst Bulldogs in first grade.
Narromine midfielder CJ Smyth, who has in recent times become a sought-after product from various Western Premier League soccer clubs, has the opportunity to win a title in two sports when he lines up on the wing for the Gorillas.
“That’s the plan now (to win two trophies),” Smyth said.
“I got through this game uninjured which is a start. One down and one to go.
“We’ve got a young, fit (soccer) side. That’s probably what got us there in the end, but there’s definitely nothing in the water.”
Right half Kaail Bohm was awarded the game ball for Narromine while goal scorer Matt Hare was the recipient for RSL.
“Full credit to Narromine,” RSL midfielder Paul Crain said. “It is disappointing getting this far and losing but the best team won on the day.”
