Just in time for finals fever, a website designed to better teach women the rules of male-dominated sports will be launched today, but while local football WAGs (wives and girlfriends) love the idea, they say they don’t need it.

A website called She Knows the Rules will be launched in Sydney today and is loaded with information for women on cricket, rugby league, union, AFL, soccer and surfing.
Four local “wives and girlfriends” involved with four different codes of football met yesterday, and while they agreed they might not know all about the rules of their chosen football code, they believe they know more than some women who have their say during a weekend game.
Monique Storch, fiancee of CYMS front rower Nicholas Wilson; Edwina Toohey, wife of Dubbo Roos flanker Lee Toohey; Lyndall Hazell, mother and wife of two AFL stars; and Elouise Auld, wife of Westside Panthers striker Pat Auld, aren’t your typical WAGs.
They don’t sport designer handbags or sunglasses and most are vocal and animated during matches.
Three of them are mothers and all of them say the joy of supporting their loved ones play sport is what gets them to the games week after week.
“Maybe if I had the pay packet of Posh Spice I might be a WAG,” Mrs Toohey said.
“I don’t even know what one is,” Mrs Auld added.
Ms Storch, a local representative basketball player herself believes women out here attend footy games to support brothers, fathers, partners and husbands and while she thinks the new website is a fantastic idea, she’s not convinced she would need to use it.
“Its a great idea, maybe not for us but for some women who yahoo from the sideline and have no idea what they’re talking about,” she joked.
For now Mrs Hazell, Mrs Toohey and Mrs Auld can take back their weekends as their football seasons are over, but for Ms Storch the biggest game is yet to come with CYMS fighting for the premiership against Parkes Spacemen in Dubbo this Sunday at Apex Oval.
