Strike Force Cagli II detectives next week will start further investigations in the local area into the circumstances surrounding the murder of then 58-year-old Nancy McKenzie who was killed with a golf putter while she slept.
Detectives from the Western Region Unsolved Homicide Team are acting upon new information recently received from a member of the public, and will conduct further inquires within the Narromine, Dubbo, Orange, and Parkes areas.
Ms McKenzie, was assaulted with the club as she slept inside her home on Murgah Street at Narromine on June 16, 1997.
Ms McKenzie sustained fatal head injuries as a result of the incident.
Interim investigations revealed that Ms McKenzie’s home appeared to have been broken into and that she was most likely attacked after disturbing the intruders.
In 2008, Strike Force Cagli II was established by the Western Region Unsolved Homicide Team, after previous investigations, including an inquest, failed to resolve the case.
Western Region Unsolved Homicide Team operations manager Inspector Brett Smith said Strike Force Cagli II detectives were committed to following all lines of inquiry into the murder of Nancy McKenzie.
“This case, like all unsolved homicide investigations, has not been forgotten and detectives will continue to dedicate all necessary resources to ensure the fatal incident is thoroughly investigated,” Inspector Smith said.
Detectives are urging any member of the community who has information relating to the death of Ms McKenzie, to contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police want to remind the public that a reward of $100,000 exists for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone found responsible for the death of Nancy McKenzie.
