That’s the word from motel owners Wendy and John Booth as the rumour mill goes into overdrive following Dubbo City Council’s approval of a McDonald’s fast-food restaurant on the site of the Ashwood Motel Resort.
“For more than a month there’s been talk about a service station taking over the Akuna,’’ Mrs Booth said.
“It might sound a good yarn to rumour mongers because the Ashwood is located right next door. But they are right off the mark because our motel is not for sale and we haven’t received any offers from big business.
“We’re actually in the process of expanding the Akuna, with approval granted to build serviced apartments on adjoining land.’’
Mrs Booth said the Akuna was the newest motel in Dubbo and as such was hardly likely to be knocked down.
She can’t understand how sale and demolition rumours started.
“We can only assume that people have overactive imagination and made assumptions about the fact that many new McDonald’s developments include a service station.’’
Mrs Booth said a sound barrier will be built on the Ashwood Resort Motel boundary to reduce noise from the 24-hour fast-food outlet.
“This will enable us to maintain the quiet atmosphere of our double brick boutique style accommodation,’’ she said.
“We are not concerned about McDonald’s opening next door.
“You can’t stop progress and McDonald’s will be another plus for this part of Dubbo.
“The Akuna already offers room service breakfast and dinner. The West Dubbo Bowling Club is situated across the street and Hungry Jacks is a short distance away.’’
