Dubbo CYMS stalwart Bernard Wilson will not change his involvement with the club in the coming years despite winning the inaugural Ken McMullen Medal at the Fishies’ 2008 presentation.

Wilson has been involved on and off the field for many years, with a stint in Sydney coming between his stint in the juniors and seniors.
The veteran admitted he was speechless when his name was announced but said he will continue to run the water where needed and help out with St Johns Junior Rugby League.
“Both CYMS and St John’s are in good hands with Kevin and John Walkom at the helm and really I was quite shocked to get the award,” Wilson said.
“There are a lot of people that do a lot of work to make the clubs as successful as they are. I just help out and do my bit so it was humbling to get the award.
“My family has had a bit of an association with the McMullens over the years and to get the award named after Ken was great.”
Wilson has children in the under-9s and under-10s with St Johns and said his involvement now would revolve around watching them progress and enjoy their football.
“It’s great to see these kids coming through the grades now.
“I’ve had my time playing football so I will just sit back, do a bit of coaching of the juniors and run the water at home games when needed,” he said.
“I was involved in a great era for the club where we won five grand finals and hopefully the work people are putting in now will ensure that continues and we can have more success in the future.
“I’ll probably be the club’s professional waterboy during that next era.”
Wilson said he had his family to thank for the award, particularly his wife Kyah who has had to put up with having her husband at the footy for six months of the year.
“I’m lucky to have Kyah. She puts up with a lot because footy does take up a fair bit of time but she has been great,” Wilson said.
“Apparently I never thank her so now is the time I suppose.”
