During the October school holidays a link road will be built from the new roundabout at the intersection of Wheeler’s Lane and Cobbora Road to Yarrandale Road.
Dubbo City Council works and services manager Ian Bailey said the completion of the link road would make way for the existing section of Yarrandale Road - from Cobbora Road to the Charles Sturt University and Dubbo College Senior Campus entry point - to be named after Mr McGrane.
The former Dubbo mayor and State Member for Dubbo died in office about four years ago.
“When works are completed, there will be no access to the industrial estates at the northern end of Yarrandale Road from Tony McGrane Place,” Mr Bailey said.
If weather permits progress of the roadworks, traffic will be redirected as of September 29 until October 4.
“During this period, Yarrandale Road will be closed between Cobbora Road and Merrilea Lane so that crews can safely complete the link-up road works,” Mr Bailey said.
“However, vehicle access to Holy Spirit Nursing Home, the university and Dubbo College Senior Campus will be maintained during this time.”
The project, costing $1.5 million, is the result of long-term transport strategy studies and plans involving the rearranging of transport routes near the North Dubbo education precinct, Lourdes Hospital and the Yarrandale Road industrial estates, the manager said.
Mr Bailey said a major goal of the project was to separate industrial traffic from general traffic.
