The centre's career includes playing stints at both the Balmain Tigers and the North Sydney Bears in Sydney.
Yeo started his football playing for St John's junior rugby league club and moved on to play with the CYMS club.
He returned to CYMS after moving back from Sydney and coached them to premierships in 2001, 2002 and in 2003 with co-coach Bernard Wilson.
Yeo, who will take over from Dean Pay as coach of the Group 11 team, said his main aim was for his side to play well as a unit against the Group 10 side.
As a non-playing coach Yeo said he would be lucky to have two or three sessions with the team before their match against Group 10 on April 29.
"I expect the guys selected will all know one another's game fairly well and be able to fit in with each other, I don't think I will have to do too much in that respect," Yeo said.
"I know all the clubs are back in training now and hopefully the guys will be in pretty good shape, but I am not expecting too much, it is pretty hard for guys to be at peak performance this early in the season."
Yeo said he was more than happy to take on the job after receiving the vote of confidence from the Group 11 management committee.
"President of Group 11 Jock Colley said he was happy to give me a go so I was glad to take on the responsibility," Yeo said.
"I think it is quite an honor to be given the job and with two trials in six weeks it is not long before we get into it - I'm looking forward to it."
"I expect the guys will be setting themselves pretty hard to knock over Group 10 and show that we are the stronger group.
"I do think we have the stronger competition and across the board I think we have the players to win.
"I know guys push pretty hard in this kind of game and a lot of players want to do well so they can get selected in the Western Region side".
The primary school teacher returned to play for CYMS halfway through the season last year and said he was looking to make a return for another season this year.
"You never know, this could be my last year playing so I will make sure I enjoy it, and with this appointment hopefully it will be a memorable year," Yeo said.
The reserve grade coach will be appointed by the management committee at its next meeting in Dubbo on February 17 and applications close on that date.
