The annual meeting held at Coonamble saw the automatic election of delegates from each TAB club to the WRA committee.
As well, the non-TAB clubs elected the remaining three committee positions from within their ranks and returned incumbents Don LeLievre (Louth), Frances Rowley (Mendooran) and Michael Kennedy (Picnics).
Long-time committeeman Len Davis (Brewarrina) did not stand for re-election.
The TAB club representatives are Tom Jenner from Coonabarabran, John Brien (Coonamble), Bob Ellis (Warren), Tony Barlow (Narromine) and Andrew Schier (Gilgandra).
According to NSW Country Racing Council regional manager based in Dubbo Sean Redden, changes in various areas were made in both Western and Central Districts associations to come in line with new constitutions.
“Delegates of each association agreed to elect an incoming committee and executive in accordance with the proposed amendments to the Constitutional Rules of Racing Associations of New South Wales pending ratification by the NSW Thoroughbred Racing Board next month,” he said.
“The main change was to sanction the departure of the City of Dubbo Turf Club from the WRA to the CDRA.”
In the CDRA, incumbent chairman and long-time committeeman Peter Ward was deposed by Mudgee Racing Club chairman Max Walker in a closely-contested ballot.
In accepting the position, Walker urged delegates to consider the CDRA to be an “an association of clubs working together for the betterment of racing in the region’’.
Former NSW Country Racing Board member John Cook from Orange did not seek re-election.
