The Asian elephants were given a feast, made up of special treats like watermelon, apple, carrots, pumpkin and ice blocks that were dyed green to add to the festive cheer.
As well as cooling the elephants down on a hot day, the food was also a form of enrichment for the animals.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
It also encouraged social feeding among the herd, which is similar behaviour to what they do in the wild.
They spent plenty of time on Thursday morning riffling through the different food options, stomping on the ice blocks to break them into manageable pieces, and even throwing them to the ground.
And thankfully there was plenty to go around, ensuring no one needing to fight to get a bit of the feast.
Dubbo's Taronga Western Plains Zoo is open every day of the year, including Christmas Day.
Tickets can be purchased via the Taronga Western Plains Zoo website.
