Emergency services were called to the intersection of Boothenba and Old Mendooran Road at about 6.45pm after the two vehicles collided.
The sole occupant of a grey Ford Ranger - a 42-year-old man - died at the scene.
The driver of a Kenworth prime mover - a 47-year-old man - was uninjured and has been taken to Dubbo Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District attended and established a crime scene, which has been forensically examined by specialist police.
As inquiries into the incident continue, police are appealing for anyone with information, or dashcam vision of the incident, to contact Dubbo Police on 02 6883 1599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
