After seven weeks out of action, the sectors are facing the welcome prospect of being able to get back to business within the fortnight.

NSW is expected to reach 70 per cent double-dose vaccination against COVID by October 11 - the trigger for salons to open the doors.

But only fully vaccinated people will be able to attend, and a rule of one person per four square metres and a cap of five clients per premises will apply.

The customer cap will lift when NSW reaches the 80 per cent double-dose mark, expected about two weeks after October 11.

Some hair and beauty businesses have taken to social media this week to provide advice to customers about making appointments.

Jenny Hunt, owner of Fine Lines Hairdressing, said on Tuesday the salon had already received a few inquiries on Monday and Tuesday about when it would reopen and if they were taking appointments.

She's looking forward to getting back to work, but is bracing for some challenges.

"The realness of it all has set in now with having to ensure clients that are looking for appointments are fully vaccinated, and that has gone quite smoothly, which is good," she said.

"It's a big elephant in the room though, not sure still how I will go if I have to approach the 'non' vaccinated."

Miss Hunt said it was still a bit up in the air, with cases still about and stay-at-home orders remaining in place.

"You want to book everyone, but then if we don't reopen then you have to go back, cancel and rebook again," she said.

"I think until we are actually back in the salon doing hair I will be on edge.

"Then I will settle knowing that we did get there."

After so long, the hairdresser of more than two decades is counting down to being able to talk to people and "restyling the woolly locks".

"We are all ready, fully vaccinated, well-rested and ready for the Christmas onslaught," Miss Hunt said.

"We will deserve our break over Christmas more than anything this year."

Christine Austin, owner of salon Christine's Touch of Beauty, said the past year had been challenging not just for her industry but also all businesses.

"But we have proven to be resilient, clients are already booking in from October 11 with the government's announcement, filling up fast with limited appointment capping us as five clients per premises and fully vaccinated only," she said.

"I'm looking forward to reopening, I miss those connections with people and can't wait to hear the laughter in the salon again."
