Dubbo Mayor Stephen Lawrence has applauded the community's response to the COVID pandemic in Dubbo, and reached out to residents in difficult circumstances.

His message, is that there are people doing it tough, but there is support available.
Testing numbers in the region have been consistently high, and around 28,000 residents have now been swabbed.
With cases across Western NSW at 116 and set to rise, and the list of venues of concern increasing day by day (currently over 60), the impact of COVID is widespread.

"We have people who live alone, we have people who live in really big families and big households, we have people that live in small houses...We have kids who might normally live between three or four homes - they've had to choose a home.
"Let's be really honest about this, we have people living in unhappy homes, people living in homes that are violent sometimes, and we have drug users who aren't using drugs at the moment because they're complying with the lockdown.
"So we need to acknowledge this real contribution that everyone is making to this amazing community effort...
"I want to congratulate those, for whom it's been particularly hard, because we need you to keep going."
Mayor Lawrence encourage anyone needing assistance to contact any existing support service they have, as a first option. For those who do not have an existing support service, the NSW Health hotline can link them with a service.

"That number is available for anyone who's been impacted and the good people there will point you in the direction of the support that you need.
"We are so well placed to contain this virus if we all do the right thing and that includes people in really difficult circumstances."
