It was a Matilda Montague strike which sealed the game for RSL who bounced back from a 3-2 loss to Macquarie just a week earlier.

RSL coach Steffen Frandsen was pleased with the effort of the side against strong opposition in Westside.

"We played well, it was a close game," he said.

"Westside are a very good opposition so it was a very good win."

The game was back and forth for almost its entirety but Montague's first-half goal gave RSL a bit of breathing room heading into the second half of the match.

Frandsen feels it could be a tough task for the side to push into the top two positions on the ladder with just two matches remaining in the season.

"The top two teams are very, very strong," he said.

"It'll be not a big ask but the top teams are very strong so if we can get in the top two we will have to wait and see."

Frandsen also felt the win was a good boost for his side heading into next weekend's match.

"It's always good to get a win," he said.

"It's always good for the confidence."

RSL sit comfortably in third position on the ladder 15 points ahead of Newtown who are fourth. The problem for the 78's is they trail second position by three points and will need results to go their way if they are any chance of scraping into the top two when finals begin.

In the round's other matches, Dubbo Bulls defeated Wellington 1-0. Macquarie scored themselves a big 6-0 win over Newtown to extend their lead at the top of the table.
