It had been a dream run for the Demons, who had not lost a game in their last four matches, but the Giants proved too good and scored a 12.19.91 to 10.4.64 win.

The home side got out to a strong start in the opening quarter but captain Dylan Fairall said his team was simply beaten by a better side.

"I think it was just a reality check," he said.

"For us, we won four in a row then came up against the top team in Dubbo.

"We played patches of footy we want to play but they were too good for us on the day."

Fairall knows the Demons can learn from the match but the efforts of a few players were impressive in the loss.

"There's obviously a lot we can take away from it going forward," he said.

"I guess there weren't too many positives from the Dubbo perspective but young Jack Storer played really well down the back.

"I thought he had one of his best games for the club and he is only a younger bloke.

"Tommy Byrnes is still playing pretty handy for us in the midfield."

Josh Anasis kicked four goals for the Demons with two of them coming in the opening quarter of the match.

The performances of Anasis, Storer and Byrnes were the biggest positives to come out of a match which was otherwise largely disappointing for the Demons.

"There weren't too many other positives," Fairall said.

"Big Josh Anasis played well up forward and he kicked a few goals.

"He might have kicked two in the first quarter which got us off to a good start and that's what I was talking about with the patches of good play.

"But in the second, third and fourth quarter the Giants were just too good."

Fairall gave credit to the Giants side, which sitz comfortably in first position ahead of the Bathurst Bushrangers.

"Their ruckman had a bit of day out and showed his class," he said.

"Their midfielders were just too quick at spreading from the contest comparative to ours."

The Demons sit in third position between the Bushrangers and Orange but Fairall knows with just a handful of rounds remaining they can still improve in a few areas before the finals begin.

"Plenty for us to learn," he said.

"It's just whether we can bring it for the last remaining rounds before finals."

The Dubbo Demons women's side also fell against the Giants going down 10.10.70 to 4.3.27 in a match where star midfielder Emily Warner celebrated her 50th game for the club.
