A cold front coming through the region is causing the wind gusts and possible storm, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
"We're seeing a cold front approach from the southwest, picking up some winds and unstable air," Meteorologist Melody Sturm said.
"So we're seeing some showers and potential for a thunderstorm over the area throughout Friday and it could be quite gusty, it could also have some small hail."
The thunderstorm chance with small hail remains for tomorrow, but it's less of a chance than today.
"Over Friday and Saturday there's potential for around 5mm of rain, that could be more if we also get a thunderstorm in Dubbo," Ms Sturm said.
