The project is a joint initiative between the NSW Government, PCYC NSW and Walgett Shire Council.

NSW Upper House MP, Sam Farraway said the multi-function facility will be a great asset for Walgett's 2,000-strong community.

"It will also boast a small laundry and car washing facility to support social enterprise programs that can provide work, business and marketing experience for young people, while generating some further income for the club," he said.

There will also be several other features in the 1,800-square metre facility including an air-conditioned indoor multi-purpose sports court, a multi-purpose activity space, which is catering for gymnastics, trampolining, climbing, ninja monkey bars, and parkour, a functional gym with weights, a youth hub area and rainwater harvesting.

The majority of funding for the project is being provided by the NSW Government, with contributions from Regional NSW and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) - Crown Lands, and $450,000 from Walgett Shire Council.

DPIE Crown Lands has further assisted by appointing PCYC NSW as the Crown Land Manager for two reserves, which have been dedicated for public recreation for the PCYC facility, on the corner Dewhurst and Fox Streets in Walgett.

Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said the fit-for-purpose functional space will be a great place for people of all ages and backgrounds to make new friends and develop skills.

"The PCYC helps shape the character of thousands of people every year, particularly youth throughout NSW, and help ensure they have the chance to reach their full potential.

"PCYC NSW is one of our State's leading not-for-profit organisations that empowers young people to make positive life choices, so it's fantastic we can support them," Mrs Pavey said.

Police Citizens Youth Club CEO Dominic Teakle said the new PCYC model would be a centrepiece for the community.

"We will be operating a multi-purpose youth and community hub that will provide first class sport and recreational facilities while being able to host a range of social and community benefit activities like film nights and dances," Mr Teakle said.

"Walgett PCYC will also collaborate with Council and other government and non-government organisations to support youth programs for the local area."

The new PCYC is due to be finished later this year in time for the Christmas school holidays.
